Buyer – Cambridge Area
Cambridge area | Full-time | 5 days on site required
Salary: £40k - £45k

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Buyer to join a growing technology business in the Cambridge area. This role is ideal for someone with strong supply chain and procurement experience who enjoys taking ownership of supplier strategy, new product introduction, and global contract management.

You’ll play a key role in shaping supply chain strategy, supporting product development from concept through to volume manufacture, and managing complex international supplier relationships.

What you’ll be doing
  • Define and deliver purchasing and supply chain strategy.
  • Support new product development from prototype to volume production.
  • Identify, evaluate, and approve global suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage outsourced projects.
  • Drive cost reduction, price negotiation, and lean inventory.
  • Collaborate with NPI, Quality, and Engineering for supplier readiness.
  • Manage purchase orders and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Analyse commodity markets and manage obsolescence.
  • Monitor supplier performance, financial health, and risk.
  • Coach and support team members in procurement best practice.
Must Haves
  • Level 4 CIPS Advanced Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Experience in Electronics or Telecommunications.
  • Proven track record managing complex global relationships.
  • Offshore contract manufacturing experience.
  • Involvement in product development (concept to volume manufacture).
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills at senior level.
  • Ability to prioritise and act decisively under pressure.
  • Full, clean driving licence + willingness to travel internationally.
  • Eligible for Security Clearance.
Desirables
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, or related field.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Understanding of international compliance/regulations.
  • Supplier development experience for new technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills for market trend analysis.
