Job description
Building Services Manager (Defence)

NCC

Bristol based – 5 days on site, with flexibility as needed.

Salary: £45,084 to £63,750 per annum (experience dependent) plus 12.5% employer pension contribution and private medical insurance.

Security Clearance: You would be required to undergo defence related government security clearance once in role.

This is a new role for NCC which will initially focused on contributing to the design and construction of our brand-new facility, attending and contributing to project/design meetings with a view to participating in project completion processes and then being part of the facilities management team that will inherit the facility in approximately 18 months.

Following go-live, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of primarily outsourced engineers in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable facilities management hard services through timely reactive maintenance, adherence to planned preventative maintenance schedules, and continuous improvement of building system performance and service standards.

Great opportunity for someone with experience supporting hard building services looking to move into the defence sector and grow their own team.

Examples of specific activities could include:

  • Undertake all necessary activity to ensure building meets with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all hard services operations, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building fabric maintenance.
  • Manage a Planned Preventative Maintenance program for the plant and general building.
  • Act as technical lead of the building management system, ensuring clean room conditions, etc. are maintained within the agreed parameters.
  • Manage building users expectations and aim for consistently high levels of customer satisfaction and management of client relationships daily, be responsible for quality control of subcontractors work by utilising spot checks, audits and review of safety paperwork, as well as ensuring that CAFM systems and site records are up to date at all times.
  • Work with capability leads to ensure new equipment and building changes have appropriate provision of services (e.g. fire prevention/detection, electricity, water, air, drainage, etc.
  • Be Zone Owner of all areas of the building not managed by Capability teams.
  • Support the Estates Team in managing and coordinating Contractors on site.
  • Carry out Emergency roles, for example acting as the Emergency Manager of Fire Safety in the building.
  • Be part of the wider Estates Operations team to provide a strong customer service provision and to agree a set of SLAs and KPIs and meet those SLAs and KPIs.
  • Identify & forecast life cycle replacement requirements and sustainable replacement options.
  • Act as a Deputy to the Estates Manager.
  • Develop and support collaborative working with H&S Team in new projects/technologies and role model our H&S culture.

So, what are we looking for in your application?

We will prioritise applications with background in fields such as defence, engineering, R&D or manufacturing industries.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in a similar role (Hard/Soft Services) with experience supporting the range of activities described above.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake government security clearance.
  • Defence or manufacturing environment experience (high complexity, high risk).
  • Experience working in highly digital environments using Building Management Systems.
  • Qualifications – IOSH and NEBOSH (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge and ideally qualification relating to either electrical or mechanical engineering.Experience managing third parties and related staff.
  • Desirable: Any team or line management experience.
  • Desirable: Membership of a relevant professional body.
