Job description
Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take‑off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionise how people fly. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on‑demand and carbon‑free.

We are currently entering a phase of expansion with the objective of rapidly bringing competitive product(s) to market. As part of this expansion, we’re looking for technicians to join the Battery team at Vertical Aerospace.

We are looking for experienced Build Technicians with high‑quality mechanical and/or electrical/electronic assembly skills. You will be required to assist in all aspects of work at our new battery development centre which has been established to test and build prototype batteries. A real “can do attitude” is required and the candidate must be happy working with minimal guidance and supervision; the role will be varied and challenging at times. Our new facility near Hallen, Avonmouth will be the principal working location.

What you’ll do
  • Carry out the prototype build of battery packs, including battery modules, bus‑bars and electronic components.
  • Carry out the assembly of mechanical and electrical components to technical drawings or find their own effective solutions to required tasks whilst still working to high‑quality standards.
  • Operation of automated equipment and other robot stations.
  • Ensuring all appropriate paperwork or recording is completed and maintained.
  • Occasional site facilities maintenance as and when required.
  • Daily health checks, equipment maintenance and fault diagnostics.
  • Maintaining a high standard of tool cleanliness and control throughout the workshop assembly areas.
  • General assistance on‑site, taking delivery of items, stores work, ordering equipment.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally within the Battery team, supporting other activities as required.
  • You may be required to work a shift system for high load periods within the business.
  • Inspection of products for quality and adherence to engineering specifications.
What we’d like you to bring
  • Strong attention to detail and quality mindset.
  • Ability to build by following operation instructions.
  • Experience of working with and around batteries.
  • Would have both mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Have an electronics, automotive, industrial or aerospace background.
  • Have experience with the operation of automated machinery as well as being proficient and confident with various hand tools and power tools.
  • Very good attention to detail and can operate to challenging deadlines without compromising standards or quality.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical schematics and technical assembly drawings. Experience with wiring, crimping, soldering etc.
  • Capable of working autonomously and safely.
