BSL Teaching Assistant - Middlesbrough

Immediate Start - Long Term Position

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate BSL Teaching Assistant to join our team at a mainstream school in Stockton.

This role involves providing 1:1 support for a deaf student, making a significant impact on their educational journey. Working for a supportive and inclusive school, we are looking for a candidate with at least a Level 2 BSL qualification, a strong commitment to inclusion, and a desire to make a difference in a mainstream classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 support to a hearing-impaired student, ensuring full access to the curriculum and participation in classroom activities.
• Implement strategies outlined in the student's EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan).
• Support the student's communication needs, using BSL to facilitate understanding of lessons.
• Develop key skills in language, reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics with the student.
• Foster an inclusive environment that encourages independence, confidence, and social integration.
• Work closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons and materials to meet the student's needs.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to contribute to regular reviews of the student's development.
• Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources tailored to the student's learning style.
• Support the student during extracurricular activities, school trips, and other events outside the classroom.
• Encourage positive behaviour and assist the student in managing their physical and emotional needs in line with the school's Behaviour Policy.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Essential Requirements:

• Minimum of a Level 2 BSL (British Sign Language) qualification.
• Prior experience supporting students with hearing impairments, preferably in a mainstream setting.
• Positive, patient, and proactive attitude with a strong commitment to inclusion and student success.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and the student's family.
