We are excited to announce the above posts for BSL interpreters as part of our collaborative in‑house team within the Interpretation & Translation Service at NHS Tayside. Applications are welcome for both full‑time and part‑time staff. Our relocation policy can assist successful candidates with reasonable moving expenses.

The role includes (but is not limited to):
  • Interpreting at patient appointments across NHST/HSCP settings
  • Managing distribution of appointments across the team
  • Working both as an autonomous practitioner and co‑working with peers
  • Preparatory briefs, debriefs and reflective practice.
  • Collaborating with I&T, NHST and HSCP colleagues to enhance our service.
  • Contributing to NHS’s BSL Local Plan
  • Engagement events with the local d/Deaf community and partnerships
  • Covering an Out of Hours rota
  • Delivery of Interpreter Awareness sessions
  • Maintaining professional accreditation
  • Reporting to an experienced sign language interpreter (Team Lead)
As an in‑house interpreter you can expect:
  • A standard working week of 37 hours (core hours are 08:00‑17:00)

Applicants must have:
  • Experience in BSL/English interpreting (mental health and/or medical desirable)
  • Registration with the Scottish Register of Language Professionals with the Deaf Community (SRLPDC) or the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD)
  • Ability to travel around Tayside

The I'T Service provides BSL interpretation across Tayside supporting Acute Services, Health & Social Care Partnerships (HSCP), Primary Care, and Independent Contractors. You will work closely with the Team Lead and other BSL/Spokendbname interpreters to deliver services to patients, carers, and their families in Tayside. Hours of work:
Post 1: Permanent – 8 hrs Fixed Term for 10 months
