Job description

BFBS have a vacancy for a Broadcast Operations Engineer, this is a varied and exciting role for the right person. BFBS are responsible for providing broadcast and entertainment services to the British Forces serving in the UK and across the world, (we serve those who serve). Based at our headquarters in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, this role will involve travel across the UK and internationally and you will have the opportunity to support all of our broadcast systems including radio studios, TV playout, our news operation, TV and Radio transmission, satellite communications, broadcast IT and delivery of transport streams over a variety of platforms. This is not a role for those who prefer specialising in one part of a broadcast system as BFBS Technology is responsible for broadcast services across the entire broadcast chain, from the microphone and camera through to the audiences’ devices. We don’t expect you to be skilled on the entire systems as we’ll train and support you, but we’d like you to have an interest in all of them!

If you join the team very shortly you will develop a range of skills including:

  • In depth understanding of broadcast IT systems.
  • In depth understanding of broadcast radio production systems.
  • In depth understanding of TV playout system.
  • Understanding of cloud-based broadcast workflows.
  • Experience of system implementation and integration.
  • Experience of implementing the technology supporting critical broadcast systems.
  • The ability to creatively approach problems not covered by existing procedures.
