Overview

We are seeking a skilled Battery Test Technician to join our client\'s electrification team. This hands-on role involves preparing electric vehicle battery systems for comprehensive testing, supporting advanced battery development programs, and ensuring the highest safety standards throughout all testing procedures. The successful candidate will work across multiple testing environments, including destructive battery abuse testing and advanced development testing facilities, playing a crucial role in advancing EV battery technology and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Primary Duties (90% of role)
  • Test Setup & Execution: Configure and support battery testing operations across abuse testing and development facilities, combining electrical and mechanical tasks
  • Instrumentation: Install and calibrate testing equipment including thermocouples, data acquisition systems, and monitoring devices
  • Safety Management: Conduct comprehensive pre-test safety inspections on customer products and testing equipment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed
  • Data Management: Collect, process, and analyse test data, preparing basic technical reports for customer delivery
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain all testing equipment and coordinate calibration schedules with internal and external service providers
  • Test Completion: Safely dismantle test configurations and restore facilities to operational condition
  • Secondary Duties (10% of role)
  • Fuel Cell Testing: Operate and monitor solid oxide fuel cell testing equipment, including installation, monitoring, and diagnostic activities
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration activities on specialized testing equipment
Working Environment
  • Primarily based at our Nuneaton facility with occasional travel to Essex site
  • Outdoor testing environment required for abuse testing activities (all weather conditions)
  • Standard day shift with flexibility for extended hours during peak periods
  • Shift work may be required during high-demand periods (early/late shifts with premium pay)
Essential Requirements
  • Qualifications
  • Level 3 qualification in engineering discipline OR completed engineering apprenticeship
  • Alternative: Physics/Chemistry qualifications with demonstrable practical engineering experience
  • Technical Skills
  • Proficient with instrumentation including transducers, signal conditioning equipment, and power supplies
  • Experience with multimeters, data loggers, and serial communication systems
  • Basic understanding of chemistry/physics principles as applied to battery systems
  • Mechanical and/or electrical/electronic engineering aptitude
  • Personal Attributes
  • Practical, hands-on approach with genuine interest in understanding how systems work
  • Intellectually curious with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail and precision in all tasks
