Job title

Location: Telford and Shrewsbury area — £12:51 per hour

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a range of housekeeping duties that may include working on wards and in service user and staff areas. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the required standard of cleaning services following the correct procedures and frequencies
  • Carrying out a variety of cleaning duties in line with ward/area/location cleaning schedules (may include operating specialist equipment)
  • Carrying out specialist cleaning and one-off cleaning duties in line with Supervisors' requirements
  • Ensuring a general, pleasant and well-maintained environment for service users
  • Operate mechanical cleaning equipment; replenish disposables and consumables
  • Safely store cleaning chemicals and equipment; assist with laundry duties as required
  • Ward-based duties as required; catering duties to support patients with meals
  • Support the supervisor on a day-to-day basis and assist with induction and training of others
  • Comment on housekeeping policies and procedures; work within a team; complete timesheets
  • Respond to emergencies and times of staff shortage; monitor and maintain stock levels
  • Participate in cleanliness audits and take appropriate follow-up actions
  • Ensure security of premises by opening/closing buildings and setting alarms as required
  • Use equipment such as floor scrubbers, rotowash, buffers, vacuum cleaners, steamers
Skills and Experience
  • Full training provided; previous NHS experience is advantageous
  • Experience of working in the NHS is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment; broad knowledge of specialist cleaning techniques
