Overview

Oxleas are seeking a highly motivated Band 8a clinical / counselling psychologist or CBT therapist to join our Greenwich team as maternity cover. Work in a burgeoning and innovative perinatal psychology field, developing skills in adult mental health, parent-infant and family work. The service is based at Queen Mary’s Hospital and operates within a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, specialist perinatal nurses, clinical psychologists, CBT therapists, nursery nurses and occupational therapists. We offer a community service for pregnant and postnatal women with severe and complex mental health difficulties and work closely with IAPT, secondary care mental health teams, maternity services, health-visiting and voluntary sector agencies. High‑quality care and excellent outcomes for women and their families are our priority.

Main Clinical Duties

The main clinical work involves specialist psychological assessment and intervention for mothers, their babies and families in the community. The post holder will also provide clinical supervision to junior staff and trainees.

Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day management of psychological provision to the team, identifying development areas or challenges and working with clinical leads, operational managers and senior psychologists to implement solutions.
  • Operate as an integrated member of the team, placing the patient at the centre of service planning and delivery.
  • Bring a psychological perspective to the work of the team and support the psychosocial work of other staff through teaching, training, supervision and consultation.
  • Provide psychosocial assessment, formulation and interventions to patients.
  • Promote and facilitate psychological capability within the team and within partnership agencies, providing specialist advice concerning assessment, treatment and management of patients.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice.
  • Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development, and continue professional development through CPD, keeping up to date with relevant research and national guidance (DoH, NICE).
  • Follow defined practices and procedures under the management and coordination of a senior psychologist.
