Band 7/8a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Gastroenterology and IBD

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape pharmaceutical care for patients with complex gastroenterology and nutritional needs, with opportunity to work within the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Please note for anyone interested in the post not meeting the full JS criteria, we would consider this as a progression post. However, the staff member would need to hold an independent prescribing qualification or be at the end of gaining their qualification.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will:

  • Leads and delivers the day-to-day clinical pharmacy service to gastroenterology through a team approach across the service
  • Support and prescribes within the IBD clinics day-to-day
  • Acts as the lead for pharmacy service to gastroenterology and nutrition on the Birmingham Heartlands site
  • Work collaboratively with the Nutrition support team with a multidisciplinary approach to patient care
  • Interprets the needs of the specialty and negotiates a range of pharmacy services to meet them
  • Plans and implements developments to the pharmacy service to the speciality
  • Also acts as a senior clinical pharmacist in various specialties
  • Represents pharmacy in relevant specialist networks, and in joint work with our locality Primary Care Trusts and other bodies at local or regional level
  • Line manages Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Trainee Pharmacists and Undergraduate Pharmacists seconded to the specialty for experience
  • To take full part in clinical/dispensary rota and bank holidays duties

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • 4 year vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience
  • Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS
  • Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
Experience
  • Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience in gastroenterology and nutrition
  • Previous participation in multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for providing high quality pharmaceutical care
  • Experience of teaching/presenting to other healthcare professionals/patients
  • Commitment to own Continuing Professional Development
  • Possesses relevant clinical knowledge in gastroenterology and nutrition
  • Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines, e.g. NICE, NSF
  • Possesses knowledge of available resources to answer Medicines Information queries
  • Able to work with drug budget information
  • Demonstrates good knowledge gastroenterology and nutrition and current issues
  • Previous involvement in clinical trials
