Overview

To provide high standards of evidence-based, patient-centred care. To work within an established team focusing on the needs of all acute patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to junior staff in effectively leading and managing the ward.
• Participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting junior staff and taking responsibility for the leadership of a team of staff when necessary.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of the patients on the ward.
• Ensure good communication and liaison with patients, their families/carers and the multidisciplinary team.
• Administer IV drugs and blood products safely.
• Provide advice to patients post-chemotherapy via a 24-hour telephone advice line.
• Care for Hickman/PICC lines as per Trust protocols.
• Administer chemotherapy as required and appropriate for role.

Qualifications and requirements

• Passionate about nursing with the ability to deliver excellent cancer care and develop management skills in support of deputies and senior staff.
• Experience and knowledge in symptom management and chemotherapy administration is ideal.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to develop clinical skills and professional education; capable of demonstrating leadership in both emergency and non-emergency situations and acting as a role model to others.
