Job Summary

Do you have a strong interest in caring for critically ill patients? We are looking for Band 5 nurses with acute care experience to join our expanding critical care team for a 12‑month fixed term contract.
We expect you to be dynamic, highly motivated, hardworking, and a good team player.

Job Details

Band: Band 5
Pay: £31,049 a year (Pro Rata for Part Time)
Contract: Fixed term, 12 months
Working pattern: Full-time
Location: Basildon, Nethermayne, Basildon Essex, SS165DJ

Responsibilities
  • Advocate for patients, provide information, support, and education to patients and families.
  • Maintain good communication with ward, housekeeping, and administrative staff.
  • Protect patient safety, confidentiality and keep relatives/carers fully informed.
  • Practice in line with the NMC Code and Trust policies.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate care programmes; organise workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and resource management.
  • Participate in audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Induct, supervise and support junior staff and students.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and evidence‑based practice; attend training and conferences as required.
  • Adhere to infection control practices and manage equipment and building maintenance.
Support & Onboarding
  • 6 weeks protected supernumerary period with clinical buddy and training.
  • Induction programme with the Education team.
  • Guidance and support from senior clinical staff.
  • Psychological support services for staff.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in Nursing and NMC registration.
  • Experience in an acute care setting; understanding of acute healthcare fundamentals.
  • Ability to deliver high standards of individualized care.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Completed mentorship/ENB998/SSSA course.
  • Completed ENB 100/Critical Care Course.
  • Basic computer skills.
