Overview

It is an exciting time to join the newly formed Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We run two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Our 7,500 staff provide high quality care for a growing population of about 700,000 across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas. You will be joining a friendly, high performing Trust committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of staff.

State‑of‑the‑art facilities place us at the heart of cutting‑edge healthcare. Travel between hospital sites may be required. All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering their first six months in post.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake all activities in a professional and proficient manner, including mandatory surgical checks prior to the start of the procedure, during and pre wound closure.
  • Carry out scrub duties according to policies and procedures, contributing to quality improvement and promoting best evidence based practice.
  • Assemble, check, prepare, and coordinate the use of surgical equipment, drugs and consumables for a wide range of operative procedures.
  • Act in the circulating role, promoting a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Work as part of theatre team to assist or circulate for surgical procedures.
  • Work competently in a variety of specialities for paediatric and adult patients.
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies and procedures.
  • Work within the Operating Theatre and Maternity undertaking competencies as required.
  • Be an effective team member and promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal and audits.
  • Sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence, reporting to senior staff any deficits that impinge on practice in a timely fashion while meeting the needs of the service.
  • Implement and evaluate care plans as appropriate to surgical requirements and patients condition.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse or Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and in sensitive and challenging situations.
  • Experienced or non‑experienced staff are welcome; training can be provided to newly registered practitioners and to those looking for a new career direction.
