Overview

Are you an experienced children's nurse looking to challenge yourself in a supportive, diverse Emergency Department? University Hospitals Birmingham Trust is the Trust for you. Paediatrics is part of UHB, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country. We are an extremely friendly team, passionate about staff engagement and compassionate care. We are seeking paediatric nurses who are passionate, dynamic and forward thinking to join our children's speciality. Our paediatric emergency services at UHB provide care to a diverse population across three sites at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals. We offer a supportive foundation preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses, or if you are experienced and seeking a new challenge we will support and develop you to achieve your full potential. We have a full time/part time position available within the Paediatric Emergency Department at Heartlands Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • To be aware of own training needs and developmental needs within the clinical environment.
  • To deliver patient care using the philosophy of individualized patient care.
  • To participate in Health Education.
  • To report on care given to other members of staff, communicating changes as they occur.
  • To liaise with other health care professionals.
  • To be aware of and respect the patient's rights for confidentiality.
  • To be conversant with the 'Code of Professional Conduct' and duties.
  • To be professionally accountable for all actions during working shift.
  • To supervise student/learner nurses and healthcare assistant nurses in the giving of patient care.
  • To be aware of Area Child Protection Committee policies and procedures and take appropriate action to safeguarding children.
  • All employees must comply with the Trust Infection Control Policy and attend infection control training as required within their department or as directed by their line manager.
  • Educational: participate in the demonstration of procedures to qualified, healthcare assistant staff and nursing students, and supervise student/learner nurses or demonstrate skills as a mentor providing a good learning environment.
  • Managerial: work as part of a team in the Paediatric Emergency Department alongside the MDT; support senior members of the team as well as student nurses and Training Nurse associates; review current practice and report to Senior Sister/Sister areas requiring change.
