University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) are searching for a Band 5 Orthopaedic Practitioner to join their highly skilled and enthusiastic team.

We provide academically-led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.

About the role

The postholder will hold British casting certification from British Orthopaedic Association and adhere to their Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Orthopaedic Practitioners Under supervision, to gain experience and skills in:

  • Clinical practice
  • Facilitation and teaching
  • Management (as appropriate)

The postholder will provide direct and indirect care at a high standard for patients requiring specialist orthopaedic care in the fracture clinic and inpatient areas.

The postholder will provide care in relation to all aspects of casting and wound care: application, removal, and advice utilising a variety of materials.

The postholder will actively contribute to teaching and education of the multi-disciplinary team in relation to casting, splinting and bracing.

The postholder will provide education, clinical advice and guidance to patients and other relevant parties on the on-going care and treatment of their condition.

The post holder may be asked to take charge of the clinic in the absence of senior staff following a successful performance review against agreed competencies required.

Requirements
  • 1 year of NHS experience in the last 3 years
  • Strong clinical knowledge, good initiative, and an ability to stay calm and work efficiently under pressure
  • Good initiative and commitment to mentoring talent, acting as a role model and resource to staff
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Honesty and integrity, and a proactive, patient-centered approach to work
