About the Role

Step into a dynamic and rewarding position as a Band 5 Custody Nurse/Paramedic within Forensic and Custody Healthcare in Merseyside. This exciting opportunity allows you to work as a Healthcare Professional (HCP) — whether as a Registered Nurse or Paramedic — delivering vital healthcare and clinical assessments within police custody settings.

You’ll join a forward-thinking, supportive organisation known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and excellence in healthcare services. Key Responsibilities

Attend all calls as directed by the call centre, responding promptly and professionally.

Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments for detainees, determining fitness for detention, interview, and release.

Provide immediate care for minor illnesses and injuries, referring complex cases as appropriate.

Perform forensic medical examinations, including injury documentation and DNA evidence collection.

Deliver care to police officers and staff injured on duty, ensuring accurate treatment records.

Collect forensic specimens in line with legal protocols.

Adhere strictly to PACE Code C and maintain the highest ethical and legal standards.

Prepare written statements and provide oral testimony in court when required.

Maintain accurate, detailed, and contemporaneous clinical records.

Assess and manage cases involving alcohol or drug intoxication, withdrawal, mental health, and learning disabilities.

Collaborate with clinical leaders to support continuous service development and maintain forensic competencies.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Registered Nurse (Adult) or Paramedic with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience.

NMC or HCPC registration in good standing.

Proficient in venipuncture and clinical assessment.

Residency in the UK for at least 3 years.

Experience in A&E, ITU, EAU, SAU, or similar acute clinical settings.

Valid UK driving licence and access to a car for work use.

Completion of a leadership course or equivalent management qualification.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

Experience contributing to innovative healthcare delivery or service improvement initiatives.
