Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea's aerial refueling (AAR) capabilities, ensuring the readiness and operational effectiveness of the tanker fleet. AIRMOB oversees fleet management, maintenance, and airworthiness, working to sustain and enhance refueling operations. It manages the integration of new processes and technologies, ensuring that tanker aircraft remain mission‑ready through effective logistics, maintenance oversight, and regulatory compliance. By coordinating across various teams, AIRMOB ensures the fleet meets both current and future operational needs, supporting a range of specialized air mobility missions.

We are seeking an experienced Aviation Safety Manager with a strong background in Flight Safety Management to oversee the operational safety of our KC‑135 aerial refueling fleet during flight operations. This role is not an EHS, OSHA, quality, or maintenance safety position. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a Flight Safety Manager and preferably be a qualified aviator (military or civilian). Reporting to the FAA Accountable Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of an ICAO Annex 19‑compliant Safety Management System (SMS) for flight operations. You will manage safety policy, procedures, risk assessments, occurrence reporting, investigations, and corrective actions for all activities related to operating our aircraft at home base and on global deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Accountable Manager and executive leadership on all operational safety matters.

  • Oversee implementation of corrective actions and monitor safety performance.
  • Conduct internal safety assurance audits and support audits across other enterprise groups.
  • Develop and deliver aviation safety training programs for aircrew and operational staff.
  • Lead safety promotion campaigns to strengthen safety culture.
  • Line‑manage the Ground Safety Manager (responsible for maintenance safety), ensuring alignment without requiring maintenance expertise.
Background
  • Minimum 5 years in aviation flight safety management, preferably as a Flight Safety Manager in military or civilian operations.
  • Valid Driver's License and US Passport.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (or higher) clearance.
Qualifications

  • Experience developing and managing SMS for flight operations.
  • Knowledge of safety investigation techniques, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with human factors in aviation and safety assurance processes.
  • Prior experience as a qualified aviator (military or civilian) is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to lead safety culture initiatives, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
