GSL Education are currently recruiting for an Autism Support Worker to work at a special needs school based inWinchester.

This is an opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children with learning difficulties (ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs). As a dedicated Autism Support Worker, you will work closely with children who has a primary diagnosis of Autism, as well as other associated additional needs.

Key Responsibilities as an Autism Support Worker:

  • To support students who struggle with their class work
  • Facilitate a fun and friendly learning environment
  • To provide support to the class teacher
  • To help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boards
  • To keep the classroom a tidy and presentable environment
  • To encourage children to do their best
  • Help manage classroom behaviour
  • Listen to the children read and practice their phonics

Qualifications & Skills required for Autism Support Worker role:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
  • Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
  • Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.
  • A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.
