Job summary

An education staffing provider is looking for an Autism Support Assistant in Sutton Coldfield to provide 1:1 support to a primary-aged pupil with autism. The role includes supporting the child's communication and emotional needs, assisting with classroom routines, and working collaboratively with educators. Qualifications

  • Previous SEN/Autism support experience required.
  • Must be available immediately and willing to obtain an enhanced DBS.
  • Willingness to complete Level 1 Safeguarding training.

Location: Sutton Coldfield
Pay: £85–£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, ongoing

The Role

Balfor Education is seeking a dedicated Autism Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a primary-aged pupil (5–11) who has autism, learning challenges, and speech/language needs in Sutton Coldfield. You will support the child’s communication, emotional regulation, and academic access, working closely with the class teacher and SEN team. Your role will also involve assisting with classroom routines and supporting inclusive learning environments.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with children with autism and other SEN (speech/language, cognition & learning)
  • Confident delivering 1:1 and small group support
  • Calm, patient, and structured approach
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or visual strategies (advantageous)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Requirements
  • Previous SEN/Autism support experience
  • Level 1 Safeguarding (or willingness to complete)
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Valid photo ID and up-to-date references
  • Immediate availability
