3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To support schools in Walsall to monitor, improve, and enforce regular school attendance by working closely with children, young people, families, and schools. The role focuses on identifying barriers to attendance, providing early intervention and support, and ensuring children receive their entitlement to education within a statutory and restorative framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track school attendance data to identify pupils at risk of persistent absence
  • Work directly with pupils, parents / carers, and schools to understand reasons for absence and agree action plans to improve attendance
  • Carry out home visits, parental meetings, and school-based interventions
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to families using a graduated and restorative approach
  • Support schools to develop strategies that raise participation and engagement
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and case notes in line with statutory requirements
  • Work independently while contributing effectively as part of the Attendance Support Service team
  • Liaise with partner agencies where appropriate to support children and families
Requirements
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families, ideally within an educational setting
Experience supporting or promoting school attendance
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build trusted and effective relationships
  • Confidence and creativity to deliver flexible, child- and family-centred support
  • Excellent organisational and report-writing skills, with the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Proficiency in using IT systems to record information and analyse attendance data
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to service development
  • Ability to provide clear, accurate advice and support verbally in spoken English
