Job description

Meta is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Associate General Counsel. The Associate General Counsel will lead strategic legal support for product development across a wide range of regulations, and engage with European and UK regulators. This is a chance to join a high-impact Legal team working on complex frontier issues. The role is instrumental in shaping Meta's compliance strategy; it offers an opportunity to partner with product, engineering, policy, operations, and business teams to identify and mitigate legal risk and respond to an evolving legal landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Function as a subject‑matter expert on European and UK data regulations and related legal issues, and provide pragmatic legal risk strategies for products across markets.
  • Provide support on European and UK regulatory and litigation matters to other Legal teams.
  • Drive regulatory readiness in cross‑functional projects concerned with Meta's response to regulations and compliance strategies in the UK and Europe.
  • Build consensus with stakeholders, develop and maintain relationships with Legal and cross‑functional partners, and drive efficient decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with public policy and communications teams on policy development and external communications.
  • Coordinate with Meta's Data Protection Office on data protection issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.
  • Minimum 8 years relevant legal experience including at a law firm or in‑house.
  • Experience of providing concise and simple explanations about complex and emerging technologies to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing large‑scale, complex, legal projects involving stakeholders across global teams and functions.
  • Experience of managing competing priorities and delivering practical advice against time‑critical deadlines.
  • Experience of advising on compliance with data laws and regulation, including in emerging legal areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience of working directly with regulators, such as European Data Protection Authorities.
  • Experience of advising on regulatory frameworks such as the Digital Services Act, the UK Online Safety Act, and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act.
