HSBC Alternatives is the alternative investment arm of HSBC Asset Management, investing globally in a wide spectrum of alternative asset classes which include private market funds, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure, private debt and venture capital, and has AUM of $58 billion.

We are currently seeking a professional to join our team as an Associate, Alternative Fund Research.

The role holder will have responsibility for performing operational due diligence reviews for investments into hedge funds and other private market funds (private equity, private debt, etc.). Such responsibilities will include conducting due diligence reviews, drafting assessment reports of managers, and making presentations to various committees and stakeholders.

In this role you will:
  • Conduct operational due diligence of external investment / fund managers as part of the HSBC’s investment process.
  • Document due diligence meetings and present findings to the various committees and stakeholders.
  • Perform regulatory research and reviews of investment & wealth managers and analyse underlying manager financial statements.
  • Conduct research into domestic and international markets to assess regulatory and tax issues involving trading or establishing a local presence in those markets.
  • Maintain understanding of ongoing developments in the hedge fund and private markets industry, including ESG, regulations, structuring, trends, valuations, etc.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • A Chartered Accountant qualification is essential.
  • Possess a deep working knowledge of the Asset Management sector and its related financial instruments, including auditing or performing operational due diligence (ODD) of Asset Managers, Investment Managers or other wealth fund managers is essential.
  • Be highly analytical and experienced in conducting research and compiling and writing financial reports is essential.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities, control multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines is essential.
  • Have a confident approach to working with senior client stakeholders at all levels.

This role is based at HSBC Office in Birmingham and has a hybrid working pattern.
