As an Associate Director of Environment Health & Safety you will play a crucial role in ensuring our operations comply with all the relevant health safety and environmental legislation as well as our company's global standards while leading a team of 2 direct reports. Core Responsibilities
- Direct EHS activities to ensure site‑wide EHS compliance and drive personal ownership and accountability for all employees.
- Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency and other appropriate enforcing authorities.
- Consult with and advise department personnel to provide technical and/or administrative assistance in support of project procedures and long‑range plans.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to leverage best practices and drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Assure completion of all regulatory submissions and notifications required to maintain compliance with country and local EHS requirements.
- Support the implementation of our company's corporate EHS strategy at the site operations level.
- Establish responsible parties for sub‑system owners of EHS standards and coordinate self‑assessments to monitor program effectiveness.
- Statutory reporting to enforcing authorities and internal reporting to our company Global Safety & Environment (GSE).
- Recommend safety, health and environmental objectives for inclusion in the company's health and safety plan and environmental program.
- Develop policies and written procedures on EHS matters.
- Develop and support Learning & Development EHS training strategy and support the delivery and coaching of both management and employees.
- Provide a system for regular EHS inspections of the workplace.
- Provide a system for reporting and recording of accident/incident/near‑miss investigations and make recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure that a suitable system of occupational health surveillance and screening is in place.
- Coach leaders to enable them to successfully carry out their leadership responsibilities for safety and environment.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety and/or Membership of IOSH.
- EHS work experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably pharmaceutical and/or biomedical research sector.
- Demonstrated experience managing direct reports, attracting talent and building a strong team.
- Knowledge of health and safety and environmental law in the UK.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate with regulatory agencies and senior operations leaders.
