Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a highly regarded national planning consultancy in their search for an Assistant Planner to join their Newcastle office. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious graduate or early-career professional to develop their skills and gain invaluable experience in a supportive and dynamic team environment.

The Role

As an Assistant Planner, you will support colleagues in delivering a diverse range of planning projects across multiple sectors, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, and infrastructure. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation, submission, and management of planning applications.
  • Carrying out planning research and policy reviews.
  • Drafting planning statements, reports, and supporting documents.
  • Liaising with local authorities, stakeholders, and clients under supervision.
  • Supporting appeals and development plan representations.
About You

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with:

  • A degree (and ideally a postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related subject.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in planning and working towards RTPI chartership.
  • Previous work experience or placement in planning (public or private sector) is desirable but not essential.
