Job summary

A leading racing organization located in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking an Assistant Stable Manager. In this role, you will support the Stable Manager in overseeing the maintenance and presentation of the racecourse stables. Responsibilities include ensuring stables are cleaned to high standards, assisting in maintenance programs, and liaising with staff regarding requirements. The ideal candidate will have excellent time management, strong communication skills, and a full clean driving license. This position may require unsocial hours, including weekends and holidays.

Who is Newcastle Racecourse?

Located within High Gosforth Park, Newcastle Racecourse is home to the historic Northumberland Plate, and is one of Britain’s busiest racecourses, hosting over 60 all-weather and jumps fixtures a year. An ideal venue for all occasions, the racecourse can host events of all kinds, including conferences, exhibitions, weddings, private parties and more. The racecourse shares High Gosforth Park with the Border Minstrel Pub and Parklands Golf Club.

About the role :

As the Assistant Stable Manager you will support the Stable Manager in managing all maintenance, preparation and presentation of the racecourse stables. You will be required to liaise with the Clerk of Course regards any additional staffing requirements to ensure stables are turned around efficiently for the next race meeting. Ensuringthe stables have been cleaned out to a high standard.

You will support the Stable Manager in reviewing working practices in each area and looking for improved methods of work andensuringthat problems found in any of the above areas.

Responsibilities for the successful Assistant Stable Manager include (but not limited to) :

This is a challenging yet rewarding role for a motivated individual. Although part of a team, working with one’s own initiative is vital in delivering the responsibilities within this role.

  • To support in all area's including but not limited to-The Stables, Veterinary Treatment box and Sample areaMaintain correct documentation & registersThe Stables ground & surrounding areaThe Stables officeCCTVLiaise with Hostel / Inn manager regards staff requirements
  • Ensure the stables have been cleaned out to a high standard according to the BHA guidelines and ARC Standard.
  • Under the direction of the Stable Manager & Clerk of the Course, carry out a maintenance programme for the course. The work entails working outside in changing and often inclement weather conditions and can be physically demanding.
  • You will be required to use various gardening, agricultural equipment, machinery, vehicles and chemicals in the process of carrying out your duties.
  • Abide by all regulations and safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and as detailed in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures

Due to the nature of this role, working unsocial hours will be a frequent occurrence, including late evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
