Job description

Applications are invited for the opportunity to work within the Medical Business Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in one of two exciting roles as an Assistant Service Line Manager. The two posts available are in Service Line1 (Med 1 - Urgent and Emergency Care) and one in Service Line 2 (Med 2 - Medical Specialities).

The current service portfolio within Med 1 is Emergency and Acute Care including the Emergency Care Department, Urgent Treatment Centres at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Blaydon, Same Day Emergency Care and the Emergency Admissions Unit. The portfolio supports service provision across these areas to the highest standards.

The current service portfolio within Medicine 2 is cardiology, cardiac diagnostics, Haematology, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Diabetes and endocrinology, respiratory medicine, Rheumatology, PIU and the Health inequalities services. The portfolio supports the service provision across inpatient and outpatient services, and has a number of nurse specialist teams.

Main duties of the job

The posts will support the two Service Line Managers in the day‑to‑day operations of these two departments. This will include the delivery of Key Performance Indicators, primarily the achievement of the Emergency Department standards and the Referral to Treatment standard. Support around relevant Cancer and Diagnostic standards as well as the relevant outpatient and inpatient programmes also forms part of the role in Med 2.

These positions offer a great opportunity to play a significant part in the smooth running of the Trust and you will work closely with the Service Line Manager, Clinical Leads, Matrons and Business Partners in managing the Financial, HR, Performance and Quality issues in the services. Reporting to the Service Line Managers, you are expected to identify and troubleshoot problems with the delivery of the service, working to solve them whilst keeping disruption to a minimum.
