Job summary

A reputable construction contractor in Mansfield is seeking two Assistant Quantity Surveyors to assist in managing the financial aspects of construction projects, working under experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors. Ideal candidates should have at least two years of experience with a main contractor, capable of managing subcontractors and producing detailed reports. Training will be provided to further develop into intermediate roles capable of leading projects. A competitive salary and car allowance are included.

The Company

My client is an independent construction contractor with longstanding customer relationships stretching back over two decades.

These projects consist of New Builds and Refurbishments, primarily in the residential and commercial sectors, carried out on a Design & Build basis.

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor Role

They are currently looking for two Assistant Quantity Surveyors to join their team, with the remit of working under a Senior QS who will develop and train you, to become an intermediate QS capable of running your own projects over the next 12 months.

You will eventually be responsible for all the financial aspects of the project, working on the pre-con phase of tenders and then take the project through to site delivery. Your active knowledge sharing, and quick resolution of issues will go a long way in the successful running of this project.

Here's what you'll be assisting with :
  • Leading commercially in tender and project meetings
  • Preparing and monitoring bid package tender schedules and report against the cost plan where required
  • Preparing, submitting and agreeing monthly costs reports and collating information from other Project / Assistant surveyors, as necessary.
  • In charge of the risk & cash management
The Successful Quantity Surveyors :
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with a Main Contractor
  • Can take off building quantities and produce detailed schedules of works
  • Formulate Subcontract Tenders and see through to chairing Pre-let meetings and finalising Subcontract Orders.
  • Manage Subcontractors commercially ensuring relevant responses are issued in accordance with the contract.
  • Work positively within a team ensuring all parties are aware of agreements and positive input is put forward to manage and resolve problems.
  • We do not want a reporting surveyor; we want a surveyor that managers.
  • They can analyse and understand Bills of Quantities, drawings, and Contract Documents
  • Able to produce Cost Value Reports, manage Preliminary costs, work with the wider team to maximise efficiencies.
  • Manage Collateral Warranties as required
  • Produce cashflows, both internal and external.
