Job summary

A healthcare organization based in Billericay is seeking an Assistant Psychologist to join its Psychological Services for Older People. Assistant Psychologist in the Psychology Services for Older People (South)

18-month Fixed Term Contract

Based in Mountnessing Court, Billericay

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and compassionate psychology graduate to join the Psychological Services for Older People in South Essex as an assistant psychologist.

We request applicants include in their supporting information a paragraph on their understanding of the psychological needs of older people. This should be no more than 500 words. Applicants suspected of using AI within this section will be rejected.

Main duties of the job

This post offers the opportunity to develop skills in the delivery of neuropsychological assessments to people referred to our memory assessment services, and to contribute to ongoing service evaluation and development through audit and research.

The successful candidate will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team, and have the chance to work alongside other assistant psychologists and attend continuous professional development groups. Weekly clinical supervision with qualified psychologists will be provided.

We would like to recruit staff who are passionate about working with Older People. However, prior experience is not necessary.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant must have an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology of at least a 2:1 and eligibility for a Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society. It would be advantageous for the successful candidate to be able to travel due to the geographical area covered our services, unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010, which prevents you from driving. A high degree of clerical accuracy and ease with numbers is also required.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
  • An Upper Second (2), First (4), MSC or above 6
  • Further post Graduate training in a relevant field
Knowledge
  • An understanding of the needs of others with mental health problems
  • Knowledge of research methods, data collection, audits, etcs
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care setting
  • Knowledge of current DOH policies with regards to mental health
  • High standard of report writing
Skills and Experience
  • An understanding of the needs of others with mental health problems/dementia
  • High level of communication skills
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information
  • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload
  • Experience of paid work in direct care provision with older people
  • Experience of neuropsychological assessment
