Assistant Healthcare Scientist in Blood Sciences

We are looking for a band 2 Assistant Healthcare Scientist to work in the Blood Sciences department at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM) in Margate, Kent. This is a full‑time 37.5 hour per week role based at QEQM Pathology Reception.

Job responsibilities
  • Specimen reception and sorting.
  • Data entry and blood sample preparation for testing.
  • Dispatching samples to other hospitals for testing.
  • Monitoring temperature and general maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Stock control and supporting the Biomedical Scientist teams.
  • Participate in the 7‑day working pattern including bank holidays.
Qualifications and attributes
  • Good keyboard skills and computer familiarity.
  • Ability to work within a team and a flexible approach to working.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Customer service skills and a good understanding of customer care.
  • Education to at least GCSE level or equivalent; Maths, English and Science GCSE grade C or equivalent.
  • Desirable: previous laboratory experience and knowledge of Biology or General Science.
