Assistant Garden Centre Manager

Location: South London

This independent, design-led garden and home business is thriving - with a reputation for stylish, community-rooted retail spaces that blend expert horticulture with curated lifestyle ranges. Over the past decade, they've grown from a single shop into a small group of boutique garden centres across London, known for their exceptional service, standout plant selections, and bespoke installations for homes and businesses.

They're looking for an Assistant Manager to help lead one of their South London sites - someone who loves plants, thrives in a hands-on retail environment, and knows how to get the best from a team.

The Role

As Assistant Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the store - helping to lead the team, maintain high retail standards, and deliver an outstanding customer experience. With a strong focus on the plant area and team development, this is a great opportunity for someone with a solid horticultural background and proven retail leadership experience.







Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the owners in leading and motivating the team.

  • Ensure the store is well-stocked, beautifully presented, and running smoothly.

  • Take shared responsibility for rotas, staffing levels, one-to-ones, and team development.

  • Deliver expert advice to customers on plants and garden care.

  • Oversee plant deliveries, replenishment, and in-store merchandising.

  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and visual presentation.

  • Contribute to recruitment, training, and performance reviews.

  • Lead by example on the shop floor - this is a hands-on role.

About You
  • Strong horticultural knowledge.

  • Experience working in a garden centre, plant-focused retail, or design-led boutique store.

  • Confident leading a small team in a busy, customer-facing setting.
