Job summary

A family-owned vehicle financing company in Northampton is seeking an experienced accounting professional to report to the Financial Controller. You'll handle month-end closing, manage a small team, and ensure compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate is ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified and has strong Excel and accounting software skills. Job description

Reporting to our Financial Controller, your role will play a crucial part in ensuring that all financial activities are executed efficiently and remain fully connected with both operational and financial systems. This role is offered on a contract basis for 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare month-end close documentation and monthly management accounts for review by the Financial Controller.
  • Manage a small team overseeing day to day transactions, ensuring that all tasks and postings are completed on time.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are prepared and reviewed on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare VAT return information.
  • Oversee purchase and sales ledgers.
  • Ensure that suspense accounts are cleared and monitored.
  • Assist in the year-end process and provide information to auditors.
  • Complete ad‑hoc tasks as required by the Financial Controller.

In addition to the above, you will maintain regular contact with the team, conduct monthly one‑to‑ones to align on the team's annual objectives, identify and support development opportunities, and assist the Financial Controller with performance reviews at half‑yearly and full‑year intervals.

Qualifications & Experience
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified.
  • Strong knowledge of current accounting standards and financial reporting.
  • Experience of audit processes and liaison with external auditors.
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct (or a similar system) and strong Excel skills.
  • Previous experience leading, developing, and motivating a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with stakeholders.
  • Analytical, logical, and focused on continuous improvement.
