Overview

Interim Assistant Finance Business Partner

Based in London, hybrid

Length: 3 months initially

Inside IR35

Rate: £400 per day via an umbrella company

We're working with a London Local Authority to appoint an interim Assistant Finance Business Partner to support directorates and capital projects, managing budgets, forecasting and accounts while shaping strategic plans, improving financial literacy and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with budget holders to monitor and manage budgets, prepare forecasts, and support the Council's Medium-Term Financial Forecast (MTFF)
  • Provide high-quality financial analysis to support decision-making, transformation projects and grant compliance
  • Maintain accounts, clear suspense items, and support closure of accounts including producing working papers and audit responses
  • Deliver financial induction and training for non-financial staff to build financial capability
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to produce statutory returns and grant claims on time
  • Contribute to service planning, continuous improvement and the development of best financial practice across the Council
Experience and knowledge required
  • AAT qualified, part-qualified CCAB/CIMA, or equivalent experience in a complex finance environment
  • Strong knowledge of public-sector accounting principles, budgetary control, and capital/revenue distinctions
  • Experience of budget creation, monitoring and closure of accounts to deadlines
  • Ability to build effective relationships, provide constructive challenge and deliver to tight timescales
