Job summary

A leading specialist contractor in the United Kingdom is seeking an Assistant Estimator to play a key role in driving project profitability through refurbishment works. The ideal candidate will have a construction background, excellent numerical skills, and be eager to learn. Responsibilities include assisting in cost estimates, supporting senior estimators, and conducting site visits. A degree in Quantity Surveying or related field is required.

Qualifications

• Genuine interest in construction, quantity surveying, or estimating.
• 1-2+ years' experience in a Estimating/QS/Assistant QS role within construction.
• Full UK driving licence required.

We're looking for a commercially minded individual to analyse costs versus income, prepare valuations and payment applications, manage variations, and optimise contract terms to protect margin, cash flow, and risk. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Estimator with a construction background who's confident working with numbers, navigating sites, and engaging with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing cost estimates, quotations, and tender submissions.
• Support senior estimators with quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost records, and project files.
• Attend site visits (as required) to collect relevant data.
• Learn company estimating software, systems, and methods.

Essential

• Genuine interest in construction, quantity surveying, or estimating.
• Strong numerical and analytical ability.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Eagerness to learn and develop professionally.

Requirements

• HND/HNC or Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction/Commercial Management (or near completion).
• 1-2+ years' experience in a Estimating/QS/Assistant QS role within construction.
• CSCS card.(Desirable)
• Full UK driving licence
