Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, especially double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel (must know pivot tables and VLOOKUPs).
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong numeracy skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Match and balance customer accounts.
  • Check supplier statements and ensure all invoices are entered.
  • Reconcile company bank accounts.
  • Prepare reports for monthly financial reviews.
  • Complete quarterly VAT returns.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Calculate weekly holiday pay and overtime.
  • Help with payroll processing.
  • Support general finance tasks.
  • Enter supplier invoices and prepare payment runs.
  • Print reports and manage finance emails.
  • Assist with rebate checks and finance-related analysis.

Job description

A family run business are looking for a reliable and experienced person to help manage their day-to-day and monthly accounting tasks. This role involves reconciling both customer and supplier accounts, preparing VAT returns every quarter, managing bank reconciliations, and maintaining the company’s ledgers. You’ll also provide cover for payroll and have the ability to manage the day-to-day operations, reporting directly into the Finance Director.

Responsibilities

As an Assistant Accountant, you will…

  • Match and balance customer accounts
  • Check supplier statements and make sure all invoices are entered and approved for payment.
  • Reconcile company bank accounts, including Barclays and HSBC (GBP and Euro accounts).
  • Prepare reports for monthly financial reviews and for external auditors.
  • Complete quarterly VAT returns and reconcile VAT control accounts.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Calculate weekly holiday pay and overtime.
  • Help with payroll processing when the regular staff are away.
  • Support general finance tasks and help where needed.
  • Enter supplier invoices and prepare weekly payment runs.
  • Print reports, upload documents, and manage finance emails.
  • Assist with rebate checks and finance-related analysis.
