Overview

Role: Assistant Accountant

Location: Dyfed-Powys Police Headquarters (Hybrid Working Arrangement)

Rate: £19.60 PAYE / £23.06 LTD per hour (umbrella)

Department: Finance

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Accountant to join the Finance team at Dyfed-Powys Police on a temporary basis until 31 March 2026. You will play a key role in supporting the financial management of the organisation, contributing to accurate reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of the Statement of Accounts.
  • Perform reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support the budget-setting process and monitor/report variances.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and internal policies.
  • Provide financial advice and support to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • AAT qualified or part-qualified accountant, with membership of a recognised professional body (IFAC).
  • Strong understanding of financial processes and accounting standards.
  • Experience with reconciliations, reporting, and financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in financial systems (Agresso Business World desirable).
Additional Information
  • Contract until 31 March 2026.
  • Security vetting (MV/SC) required.
  • This role involves regular use of display screen equipment and headsets.
