A recruitment agency is seeking a Sales Manager to cover national responsibilities across multiple territories in the UK. The ideal candidate should have strong industry knowledge and sales experience, particularly in business development, along with a willingness to travel. The position offers a competitive base salary of £50-55k, an annual bonus scheme, a company car, and additional benefits. This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional looking to make a significant impact in the industry.
Participants: Oliver Hesmondhalgh (Speaker 1) and Scott Hoston from Norris Bagerman (Speaker 2)
Purpose: Discussion about recruitment for a sales manager position at Norris Bagerman.
Recruitment Discussion:
Scott mentioned a past candidate (John Spencer) who was considered for the role but had a shaky CV with frequent job changes, leading to a reluctance in pursuing him further.
Scott shared a negative past recruitment experience with another agency, highlighting issues like a poor understanding of the role and lack of industry knowledge by the candidate.
Oliver emphasized that they prefer a partnership approach to recruitment, offering tailored services rather than transactional placements.
Sales Manager Role:
The position involves a national responsibility, covering three territories: North (up to Scotland), West Midlands, and South.
Flexibility in the candidate's work location (home or office-based) is offered, as long as the candidate can manage customer visits and attend office meetings when required.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The preferred candidate should have strong industry knowledge and sales experience, particularly in business development, and a willingness to travel.
Experience with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) is seen as a major plus, especially in sectors like agriculture and large projects.
Product-specific knowledge is less important as product training will be provided.
Company Info:
Norris Bagerman has a growing UK operation, with Scott managing the Central UK and Northern Ireland.
The company is part of an integrated group with a wider product portfolio, but the initial focus will be on core products.
Package and Terms:
Base salary: £50-55k, with an annual bonus scheme (starting at £5k), no commission structure.
Company car (non-negotiable): Ford Explorer (electric).
Benefits include a pension and 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays.
Interview and Timeline:
Scott’s schedule is tight next week, so they plan to review candidates after his CEO visit.
Oliver will send a job description and further details. First-round interviews are to take place the following week, either via Teams or in person.
Scott is open to reviewing three or more potential candidates for the role.
Recruitment Terms:
Oliver explained various pricing models: 18%, 19%, and 20% fee options with free replacement periods ranging from 2 to 4 months.
The Virtu Engage option, involving a £2,000 upfront fee and a 6-month replacement period, is the preferred choice.
Scott is waiting for HR approval to finalize the terms.
