Job description

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Arboricultural Consultant to lead arboricultural workstreams across a varied portfolio of planning and development projects. The role combines technical delivery, project leadership and strategic input, with scope to influence how trees are assessed, protected and integrated into development proposals. You’ll take ownership of BS5837 assessments, provide trusted technical advice to clients and design teams, and support the development of junior consultants. The role suits a confident arboriculturist who enjoys responsibility, autonomy and working on complex, real‑world projects.

Salary: £95,000 – £110,000 (+ benefits)

Permanent Location: Home Based – with travel to client sites

Responsibilities
  • Lead arboricultural projects from scoping and fee proposals through to delivery
  • Undertake and oversee BS5837 tree surveys, Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Method Statements
  • Provide technical advice on complex planning applications and development schemes
  • Present arboricultural findings clearly to clients, consultants and stakeholders
  • Deliver tree risk assessments and support wider tree management advice
  • Manage project programmes, budgets and client relationships
  • Mentor and support junior arboricultural consultants
  • Collaborate closely with ecology, landscape and environmental planning teams
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of arboricultural processes and standards
Qualifications
  • Academic qualification in arboriculture or a related environmental discipline
  • Strong experience delivering BS5837 consultancy services
  • Technical (or higher) membership of the Arboricultural Association
  • Proven experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident project leadership and organisational capability
  • Full UK driving licence
