About Us:
Located in the heart of South London, Lambeth Borough is a vibrant community of over 317,600 residents. Stretching from the dynamic neighbourhood of Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. Our diversity is our strength, with more than 130 languages spoken, making Lambeth the home of the Windrush generation, London's largest LGBTQ+ community, and a thriving Portuguese-speaking community.
With exceptional schools, lush green spaces including Brockwell Park, cultural gems like the Black Cultural Archives, and world-renowned institutions such as St Thomas's Hospital, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and experience by working as an Apprentice in the Community Services team at Lambeth Council. Apprenticeships give you the opportunity and support to develop new work‑placed skills by putting training into practice in your job.
The post holder will be working within a small team of venues and community officers who are based on site at Brockwell Hall, and within the wider Community Services division at Lambeth Council.
The role will also involve working collaboratively with other Lambeth Council teams, with community organisations based in Brockwell Park and working alongside a developing team of dedicated volunteers.
About the Role:
This role will be based on site in Brockwell Hall – a heritage building at the centre of Brockwell Park which has recently been restored thanks to funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund and Lambeth Council. The Hall has a café, exhibition space, large events space and space for community hire. We host a huge range of community and commercial events with a small site‑based team.
The responsibilities of the role are to support and engage with different parts of our team and with external customers and community members. With a focus on adding value, the role of business administrator will contribute to the efficiency of our organisation, through support of functional areas, working across teams and resolving issues as requested. The flexibility and responsiveness required allows the apprentice to develop a wide range of skills.
The range of tasks and applications will be varied and we need an apprentice who has strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills. While you will be well supported in terms of training and on the job supervision the business administrator is also expected to show initiative, managing priorities and own time, problem‑solving skills, decision‑making and the potential for people management responsibilities through mentoring or coaching others – this may well include work experience placement holders and volunteers. Successful candidates will need to be available for some evening and weekend work to support events and activities.
