Job Description

The 3M Personal Safety Division is seeking an Application Engineer (AE) to support business growth in the UK & Ireland and strengthen the Northern Europe AE team. The role involves delivering product and market expertise, supporting new product introductions, and providing thought leadership.

The AE will act as a trusted expert on worker health, safety, and PPE solutions—particularly in Hearing Protection, Communication Solutions, and the Defense and Public Safety sectors, primarily in the UK & Ireland. The position includes collaboration with a team of eight AEs across Northern Europe and, as business needs dictate, may require direct support to the wider Northern Europe region.

Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Identifying new opportunities and completing high‑impact technical programs with customers
  • Delivering customer/market‑focused technical training and knowledge transfer both in person and via inspirational e‑media resources
  • Interpreting industry standards & regulations to provide expertise to both 3M and customers
  • Technical lead for new product commercialization activities and helping to build competitive value propositions for effective new product introductions
  • Through field trials and voice‑of‑customer interviews, harnessing insights to maintain a flow of major technical contributions supporting product development teams and driving our innovation engine
  • Leveraging your knowledge to position 3M as the thought leader within the PPE and driving conversations with 3rd parties, shaping regulations and defining industrial standards toward safer workplaces and healthier work conditions for workers
Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Familiar with general health and safety regulations and the willingness to elevate that knowledge
  • Engineer, Science degree or relevant industry experience
  • Customer‑oriented with strong interpersonal and listening skills
  • Proven experience in technical training and knowledge transfer
  • Able to communicate and network at all levels both inside and outside of 3M
  • Strong teamwork skills with demonstrated success in collaborative environments
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills
  • Fluent in English
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Experience with communications solutions devices
  • Occupational Health & Safety knowledge or safety engineering background
  • Military engagement, be it former Serviceperson or stakeholder engagement
  • Experience with CRM software, ideally Salesforce.com
Job specifics:
  • This position is based in the UK with scope to also travel to Nordic countries in wider support of Northern Europe PSD as priorities dictate
  • Regular travel across the UK & Ireland is required (to visit customers, distribution partners, industry bodies)
  • Depending on business priorities the role may include up to 60% domestic travel (with overnight stays) and up to 10% regional travel (in Northern Europe)
