Become a Canal & River Trust Fundraising Ambassador

Inspire giving. Protect waterways. Connect communities.

Do you love chatting with people and spending time outdoors? Would you like to help protect your local canals and rivers?

Join us as a Canal & River Trust Fundraising Ambassador – a fun, flexible, volunteering role where you’ll make a real difference by inspiring others to give and support our beautiful waterways. As the friendly face of the Trust at events and attractions, you’ll share stories about our canals and encourage donations through contactless technology, working closely with the Contactless Fundraising Team to spot new donation opportunities and support projects that generate vital income for canal care and conservation.

What you’ll do
  • Represent the Canal & River Trust at local events and attractions
  • Share stories about our heritage, wildlife, canal network and community work to inspire visitors to support our work
  • Use contactless giving devices to collect donations
  • Spot new opportunities for contactless devices and fundraising materials in local businesses, cafes or busy stretches of towpath
  • Use your local knowledge to build relationships with local groups, clubs and societies as well as Trust colleagues and volunteers

Why we want you

Our Ambassadors help promote the value of our nations canals and rivers by attending events, being the smiling faces at one of our Welcome Stations, promoting our Share the Space campaigns and engaging with potential and existing supporters and customers alike. As an Ambassador you can help not only represent the Trust, but connect more people to our unique environment and raise awareness for canals.

Our Ambassadors are all about public events, specific opportunities when we invite members of the public to join us, learn more, try a new activity on the waterways and find out more about the Trust.

Our other events focused role (Waterside Leader) is for our volunteers who lead activities at events e.g. guided walks.

We have other roles which complement our Ambassadors by engaging with customers on a day to day basis, outside our events programmes: Rangers, Lock keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions and Youth Engagement roles.

What you will be doing
  • Attending other organisations’ events and taking the Trust to them
  • Giving talks in the local community to adult groups
  • Promoting the waterways in other ways in your local community
  • Helping at events at our museums and attractions to share our amazing museums’ collection
