Electrical Test Operations Engineer (AIT)

Location: Initially Stevenage, moving to RAL NSTF, Oxfordshire (from March 2026). Contract: 12 months, with possible extension. Work Pattern: Shift-based, Monday-Sunday (rotating days/lates/nights). Security Clearance: SC required prior to starting. Industry: Space, Aerospace, High-Tech Manufacturing. Pay per hour: £27.66 PAYE or £37.00 Umbrella.

We’re now looking for an Electrical Test Operations Engineer to support spacecraft and subsystem testing within a world-class Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) environment.

What you’ll be doing

As an Electrical Test Operations Engineer, you’ll play a key role in verifying and validating electrical performance across spacecraft, engineering test benches and subsystem assemblies. Your work will support safe, efficient and successful mission delivery.

Your main responsibilities include:
  • Executing electrical and functional test procedures on engineering test benches and flight spacecraft.
  • Preparing electrical test setups and conducting measurements in a cleanroom environment.
  • Using Central Checkout Systems (CCS), Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and SCOEs to run test campaigns.
  • Validating test aids such as breakout boxes, cables and custom electrical interfaces.
  • Updating test procedures, raising work orders and producing clear test documentation and reports.
  • Supporting the development and debugging of Automated Test Procedures (ATPs) using high‑level scripting tools.
  • Troubleshooting electrical faults and contributing to non‑conformance investigations.
  • Supporting environmental and launch test phases.
  • Helping design and manufacture electrical test aids and managing associated documentation.
  • Contributing to departmental operations including calibration coordination, logistics and equipment control.
What you’ll bring
Essential skills & experience
  • Experience in electrical integration on test benches or spacecraft.
  • Confident use of electrical and RF test equipment (e.g. DMMs, oscilloscopes, power meters, data bus monitors).
  • Ability to run and update test sequences/scripts via CCS.
  • Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience writing reports, updating procedures and contributing to test reviews.
  • Minimum HNC or NVQ Level 4 in Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years’ relevant experience.
Beneficial experience
  • Knowledge of spacecraft electrical architecture, harnessing and subsystems (e.g. data handling, thermal, AOCS, power systems).
  • Basic programming or scripting experience for automated test sequences.
  • Experience using Digital Design and Manufacturing Systems (DDMS).
  • Familiarity with Windows/Linux and cleanroom working practices.
Additional requirements
  • Flexibility to support 24/7 shift patterns, including weekends.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK for test campaigns.
  • Eligibility for UK Eyes Only roles and ability to obtain SC clearance.
