The role

The role: Aircraft Workshop Services Manager– Heathrow Maintenance

Lead Aircraft Workshop Services at LHR, including the Fleet Support Facility, Powerplant Support Facility, Non-Destructive Testing, and Cabin. You will drive operational excellence by ensuring coordination between aircraft maintenance and workshop/cabin functions, aligning business plans to LHR Maintenance strategic objectives, and creating a culture of continuous improvement with safety at the core. Provides a safe working environment; role models and maintains safe and secure working practices; Identifies, develops and achieves plans to improve performance and cost year-on-year.

What you’ll do:

  • Serve as a member of the LHR Maintenance Leadership Team, collaborating across Engineering to shape strategic direction for fleet growth, aircraft availability, reliability, and cost efficiency (mCASK).
  • Act as nominated post holder for LHR Workshop operations, ensuring regulatory and operational compliance to both Part 145 and Part 21G.
  • Maintain compliance with statutory requirements through rigorous adherence to procedures, effective colleague engagement, and targeted training programmes.
  • Advocate for a strong safety culture, with safety at the core of all activities.
  • Lead operational performance, benchmarking, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion employee relations and change leadership, fostering meaningful engagement and empowerment.
  • Oversee resource management and ensure effective delivery of business objectives.
  • Manage a team of 5 direct reports and 150 indirect reports
  • Have direct responsibility up to £25m, 5-year plan up to £5m
  • Be responsible for a range of ratings (B1/B3, C1, C4, C6, C7, C8, C9, C12, C14, C17, C20 & D1)
  • Work closely with the Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations Leadership teams, as well as CAMO, suppliers, UK CAA, EASA, BA Properties, external component MROs, and OEMs.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Excellent communication skills, able to present and articulate clearly to all levels.

  • Deep understanding of Engineering’s business, operational, and commercial strategy.
  • Effective at both strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Proven leadership in managing change with empathetic, balanced judgement.
  • Ability to coach, lead, and engage large groups of colleagues.
  • Strong people leadership skills, able to clearly explain and deliver business change.

Your Experience:

  • Experience leading an Engineering department (essential)
  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance integrated processes and systems (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of H&S legislation (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of Part 145 operations and Workshop maintenance functions (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of Part 21G production, including Workshop manufacture processes (essential)
  • Strong industrial relations experience (desirable)
  • Workshop Approval or Part 66 Licence holder (desirable)
