Job Title: Air Freight Import Operator

Location: Manchester, M22 (Hybrid working involved)

Salary: £35,000 DOE + bonus

Hours: Monday to Friday

Air Freight Import Operator Job Purpose

Reporting to the Airfreight Manager, the Air Freight Import Operator is responsible for the full end-to-end coordination of air import shipments, ensuring efficient handling from arrival through to final delivery. The role involves managing nominated client accounts and supporting internal Business Development teams, maintaining exceptional customer service standards, operational accuracy, and profitability. A key part of the position is ensuring all import procedures, customs requirements, and documentation are completed in compliance with regulations, while fostering strong relationships with clients, agents, and carriers.

Air Freight Import Operator Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of air import shipments, from pre-alert through to delivery, ensuring all procedures are followed and deadlines met.
• Liaise with airlines, handling agents, and overseas partners to ensure smooth cargo movement and accurate documentation.
• Support the Import Supervisor and UK Airfreight Manager to achieve departmental service and performance targets.
• Provide proactive communication with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure visibility, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
• Prepare and process import documentation, including customs entries via Descartes, ensuring compliance with HMRC and internal policies.
• Monitor shipment milestones and update customers on progress, resolving any operational issues quickly and effectively.
• Support external sales and business development teams by providing rates, quotations, and service information.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase operational efficiency and profit margins.
• Maintain and monitor key performance and financial indicators for client and agent activities.
• Build and maintain long‑term relationships with clients and overseas partners through professional communication and excellent service delivery.
• Collaborate with the accounts team to ensure invoicing accuracy and adherence to agreed payment terms.
• Select and manage suppliers to optimise cost efficiency and service quality across the airfreight import operation.
• Integrate and coordinate new business into the existing service network to ensure a seamless transition and consistent customer experience.

Air Freight Import Operator Must Haves

• 4+ years Air Import experience.
• Fully Customs Entry & Descartes compliant.
