Job description
Overview

Barts Health is the largest NHS trust in the UK, with three emergency departments, including the Royal London Hospital. We are a major trauma centre and hyper acute stroke unit providing urgent specialist treatment to North East London and beyond. We are an innovative team that works closely with research colleagues to integrate pioneering, world-class care and treatments, developing new pathways and services to provide an efficient, patient-centred approach to emergency medicine.

We offer a structured orientation and ongoing mentorship support to guide your progress through the early stages of your Emergency nursing career. We follow the RCN national emergency nursing framework competencies. Our experienced PDN and senior nurse team will support you in achieving these competencies at level one, with a mapped pathway into our ED and trauma courses at level 2. Our Department offers the successful candidate a unique learning environment to enable the achievement of your learning objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of high standards of care in a busy and stimulating emergency department environment, with the resilience to manage competing priorities.
  • Engage in secondment opportunities including the Physician Response Unit and potential integration into the REACH (Rapid Emergency Assessment Coordination HUB) service in the community, following successful development program completion.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects and take a lead as a nurse champion in areas of care that interest you.
  • Describe and communicate prioritisation decisions in fast-paced clinical scenarios, including what tools or systems supported you and how you achieved a positive outcome (as part of the application statement).
  • Participate in structured orientation and mentorship to achieve RCN framework competencies (level 1) with a pathway into ED/trauma level 2 training.
  • Work within the NMC Code, trust policies, guidance and procedures to ensure safe working practice for yourself and others.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Over six months' acute post-registration experience with the skills and abilities to deliver high standards of care.
  • The resilience to meet the challenges of a busy and stimulating work environment.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills and proven organisational/clinical abilities.

We follow our WeCare values and behaviours to create an inclusive, supportive working environment where every staff member can fulfil their potential.

Application guidance

When submitting your application, in your supporting statement please describe a time you have had to prioritise care for multiple patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. Explain how you made decisions, what tools or systems supported you, and how you achieved a positive outcome?

To provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, the post holder will work within the NMC Code, trust policies, guidance and procedures to ensure safe working practice of self and others.
