Location: Saffron Walden (CB11) Job Type: Permanent Hours: 9.00am - 5.30pm Monday - Friday Salary: Competitive Job Reference: 35899

We are seeking an Additive Manufacturing and Prototyping Technician / Specialist to join our Saffron Walden based client. You will support rapid prototyping, fabrication and small-batch production for engineering and R&D teams, working on components for advanced sensing, robotics and AI-enabled systems. This role is open to both junior and experienced specialists. You will work closely with engineering and R&D teams, influencing and expanding in-house fabrication and AM capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS), including slicing, setup, monitoring and post-processing
  • Support hands-on prototyping and fabrication using workshop tools; assist with simple machining (CNC a plus)
  • Produce jigs, fixtures, enclosure, and test hardware; assemble prototype systems
  • Make basic CAD edits and prepare models for print; advise on DFAM
  • Inspect parts, maintain an organised workshop and improve workflows
  • Senior candidates may lead AM strategy, train others and support advanced materials/process research
Requirements
  • Experience with 3D printers and slicing software
  • Basic CAD skills and strong hands‑on workshop ability
  • Good mechanical understanding, organisation and attention to detail
  • Desirable: professional AM/prototyping experience, advanced materials, CNC/laser experience, test jig building, DFAM knowledge, printer repair, electronics familiarity, robotics/hardware background
