We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee our Accounts Payable (AP) function during a 12-month maternity leave. This role is critical in maintaining operational continuity, ensuring compliance, and driving efficiency across AP processes. You will lead a dedicated team, deliver supplier-focused solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support financial integrity and business objectives.

Your Role

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and support the AP team to ensure high performance and engagement.
  • Set clear goals, monitor KPIs, and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily AP activities including invoice processing, payment runs, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of supplier payments in line with company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date process documentation and SOPs.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to queries.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks related to AP operations.

Supplier-Focused Solutions

  • Champion a supplier-centric approach to issue resolution and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, and other departments to ensure supplier needs are met efficiently.
  • Drive improvements that enhance supplier experience and strengthen operational partnerships.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Produce regular reports on AP performance, aged creditors, and cash flow impact.
  • Analyse trends and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for automation and process optimisation.
  • Lead or support AP-related projects and system enhancements.
  • Champion continuous improvement and change management initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing Accounts Payable operations, ideally in a mid-to-large organisation.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in AP systems and ERP platforms (SAP would be advantageous)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Solid understanding of financial controls, VAT regulations, and audit processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Professional certification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable but not essential.
