Job summary

A financial services company is seeking an Assistant Accountant in Chesterfield for short-term maternity cover. The role involves daily bank reconciliations, processing high-volume transactions, and supporting month-end activities. Candidates should have previous accounting experience, strong transactional skills, and good Excel abilities. This opportunity offers a hybrid working model of 2-3 days per week in the office, starting mid-February.

Responsibilities

  • Daily bank reconciliations and cashflow updates.
  • Processing and reviewing high-volume financial transactions.
  • Supporting month-end close, including journals and reconciliations.
  • Assisting with Area P&Ls and reporting.
  • Intercompany recharges and control account reconciliations.
  • Providing accurate financial information to the wider finance team.
  • Ad hoc finance duties as required.

Skills

Previous working experience in an accounts / finance role
Strong transactional accounting background
Good Excel skills, including formulas and experience similar to VLOOKUP
Ability to work accurately and to deadlines
Confident communicator with a proactive approach

Location: Chesterfield (2-3 days per week in the office). Start Date: Mid-February. We are currently seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide short-term maternity cover, supporting the finance team with transaction-heavy accounting duties and day-to-day financial processing.
