Job description

Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for a Senior Finance Officer to join Kirklees Council on an initial 3 month temporary contract. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day financial support to a mixed portfolio of services

  • Support and specialise in key finance functions such as financial planning, corporate accounting or capital accounting

  • Lead on budget monitoring, forecasting and financial reporting

  • Attend and contribute to meetings with Budget Holders and Senior Managers, presenting financial information and advice

  • Support the delivery of capital accounting activities within a public sector environment

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies and procedures

  • Line manage, supervise and support Finance Officers and Assistant Finance Officers

  • Contribute to service improvements and the development of effective financial processes

About You
  • Significant experience working within a public sector finance environment

  • Local Authority experience is preferred, however candidates from other public sector backgrounds will be considered

  • Proven experience of:

    • Budget monitoring and financial forecasting

    • Presenting financial information to Budget Holders and Senior Managers

    • Supervising and supporting junior finance staff

    • Capital accounting within the public sector
