Overview

This 0.4 WTE Band 8b Lead Pharmacist: Oncology Sutton role is a one-year backfill (Thursday/Friday) during the current post holder's secondment to an RM Partners SACT project. The position leads and supports the Oncology Pharmacy Team at Sutton & Kingston, ensuring high-quality clinical services for OCC & Kingston day units and NMP support to SACT clinics. It also contributes to developing the pharmacy workforce to recruit and retain top staff.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate, deliver and optimise clinical pharmacy oncology services at the Sutton & Kingston site, including provision of services 7 days a week (if required) and out of hours.
  • Lead and support the Oncology Pharmacy Team at Sutton & Kingston, ensuring standardised processes and streamlined pathways across both sites.
  • Lead a team of pharmacists, technicians and other pharmacy staff to deliver cutting edge oncology services to patients.
  • Lead local, regional and national projects to optimise medication, improve services and outcomes; responsible for implementation through extensive stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Lead on pharmaceutical issues relating to medicines optimisation and clinical trials within the Oncology Specialist pharmacist role, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and medicines legislation.
  • Provide highly specialised pharmaceutical advice and support relating to medicines use to senior medical and nursing staff of the designated specialist unit.
  • Contribute to the local delivery of the Pharmacy Education and Training strategy; collaborate with the Pharmacy Education and Training Team to develop a strategy that supports high-quality clinical pharmacy service.
  • Deputise for senior members of the pharmacy team when appropriate, attending Trust meetings and taking responsibility for the Pharmacy Department as required.
  • Identify changes in prescribing practices that may impact the drugs budget and/or patient activity and communicate any perceived impact to the relevant teams and clinical business unit.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Candidates should be enthusiastic, proactive, independent, decisive and highly organised.
  • The role requires experience and capability to lead a multidisciplinary team and to deliver complex oncology services.
  • One-year backfill, 0.4 WTE, Band 8b, with Thursday/Friday working, during the secondment period.
