WHY JOIN THE ALSTOM ADVENTURE ?

Alstom, is one of the leading suppliers of rolling stocks, trains, and metro control systems, headquartered in France, Alstom is present in more than 70 countries and currently employs 75,000 collaborators.

Its 11,500 employees in France are bearer of an expertise destined to serve French and international customers. One job at Alstom generates about three at its suppliers.

The rail industry today is characterized by strong and continuous growth around the world. The trends behind this situation are : environmental issues, global population growth, urbanization and increasing demand for mobility.

With nearly 9 billion in sales, Alstom is developing the most comprehensive range of systems, equipment, and services on the rail market.

Today we offer our customers solutions that combine diverse technologies, optimal interfaces, flexible and innovative implementation methods.

As part of our Alstom Digital Systems activity, the Saint-Ouen Development Centre is in charge of designing Alstom signaling Solutions for urban metros: Urbalis 400, a system deployed on more than 100 lines worldwide, and Urbalis Fluence, our latest and most innovative system (train centric).

Fluence solution is a complex system insuring the safety of a metro line, able to drive automatic trains, controlling the infrastructure and interacting with metro operators to match performance and regularity constraints. Around 150 people work daily to its development.

Purpose of the job

The role of the Fluence Industrialization System engineer is to lead Fluence solution from a prototype (today successfully deployed on 3 lines in the world) to a full industrialized solution ready to be easily used on any metro line of the planet.

He/She is working with the teams currently deploying Fluence on 3 lines (Torino, Paris L18, Hambourg) to identify their issues, and propose an optimized solution to facilitate future deployments, which keeps compatible with our development roadmap

He/She will also either implement the found solution (when doable with his/her competencies) or follow closely the implementation by expert teams to guarantee the quality of the realization.

Fluence Industrialization System engineer responds to the Fluence Competitiveness Manager which role is to keep Fluence solution at a superior technological level while maintaining competitive costs.

Your missions

The main mission of the Fluence Industrialization System engineer is:

  • Know precisely the process with which we adapt a generic signaling solution to a specific metro line, both in a context where it is already industrialized (previous signaling solution), and in the current Fluence context. In particular safety constraints lead to mandatory verification and validation activities
  • Have regular exchanges with deployment teams to understand their bottleneck, and compare with the point of view of the engineer developing the generic solution
  • Create a vision of the optimized Fluence deployment process in the future, taking full advantage of the new principles of this new solution. This vision will be elaborated by collaborative work with both development and deployment teams.
  • According to the current status of Fluence and project constraints, identify steps towards the final deployment process
  • Improve Fluence deployment, either by
    • Realizing the proposed steps (for example describing a new way of working in the documentation, or by creating/modifying a tool able to automatize tasks)
    • Insure the coherence of the development with the needs when it is realized by another team
  • Evaluate the real impact of improvements in deployment team and keep track of the overall progresses

WHAT IS YOUR PROFILE?

  • Graduate of a master’s degree in Engineering or university equivalent, preferably with a specialization in Mathematics, Complex systems, Rail Transportation Systems. Owning a PhD will be a plus.
  • Experience preferred: 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar position (complex system architecture, system design, project engineering, validation, or operational safety) within a Transport company, experience in Rail Signaling would be appreciated.
  • Ability to solve technical problems: with rigor, critical thinking, analytical approach, but with creativity, you are able to synthesize the different aspects of a technical subject as well as to make reasoned decisions, and conduct analyses independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a taste for collaborative work, as well as technical management: you enjoy working in teams and technical coordination, you are open and comfortable when presenting to clients, and motivated by multicultural environments.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
